She offered to show me the city. Is this a date? Gosh, it is hard to read people and not get it wrong.
How come so many people can do it so easily? Why not me?
Jun had just moved from the east coast with his parents to a town on the other side of the country. His parents had gotten a great opportunity, plus Jun had been considering higher education opportunities in the region and his parents wanted to remain close. Jun had felt a little bit put on the spot, but he got over any pressure his parents may have placed on him to go to school out here.
Jun's parents both worked a lot. His mother was a business analyst and programmer in the medical industry while his father was an accountant. His grandparents were also on this side of the country and his parents were interested in being closer to them as well.
Jun was a senior and transferring your last year in high school is difficult on anyone. He had a few classmates that were study buddies or gamers, but Jun did not have a lot of close friends. Jun was not really sure what he wanted to do when he graduated, but he really did enjoy playing basketball, drawing, and playing games online.
On his first day in his new school, Jun was really nervous. His parents were dropping him off while a lot of kids drove themselves. His dad said it saved money for college rather than putting the money into a car that was unnecessary. Jun was pretty sure his mom and dad just did not want to him to grow up so fast. Or drive.
After a few awkward moments with meeting his new classmates, Jun was assigned to a group that included a really nice girl named Kory. Full of energy and really outgoing, Kory was the opposite of Jun in that regard. They both got good grades, but Kory was a social butterfly while Jun was kind of a loner. Kory smiled a lot and was really happy with seemingly a lot of confidence. Jun was somber and a thinker. Jun had to warm up the social situations and then he was just as comfortable as anyone.
While working on an experiment for lab, Jun said he had not really explored the place and missed the cinema back home. The movie theater had the best popcorn, really comfy seats, and cool employees like the general manager named Jared. Really basic and not all that interesting, Jun was surprised when Kory offered to show him the city with a few of her friends. This left Jun wondering if this was just the way students in this town greeted classmates or if there was something to the unexpecte offer to hang out.

Kory and Jun checked out the downtown the following weekend. They got pizza and checked out the local businesses including the local coffee shop, book store, and checked out the satellite campus for the university. As it got later and a few of the other companions took off for work or because they had other things to do, Kory suggested checking out what was playing and catching a movie.
