People have gone to the movies for generations. Escapism, history, adventure, jump scares and horror, laughter and thrills have started or stimulated many conversations and created a shared sense of context and togetherness.
Dinner and a movie, movie on the lawn, slumber parties, and movie day at school are all great times. Enjoying it so much, people were eager and willing to recreate the experience at home with dinner and a movie. Maybe it was date night for mom and dad or the slumber party (young and old alike!) or a time for families to share a moment together, television and the movies are a part of the fabric of our lives. In terms of memories, when people communicate with one another and catch up, it is not uncommon to recollect. Remember when we saw such and such film and got caught in the rain? How about when we saw that off the wall slapstick movie and laughed afterwards?
Over time, many families had traditions about going to the theatre and precious memories of these events that they keep for the entirety of their lives. For some families, it was dinner and a movie like Friday night pizza followed by a trip to the cinema or the store to buy or rent something new. Maybe it was date night or family night, it did not matter. What truly matter was sharing time with others and / or experiencing the novelty of a new show.
Dinner and a movie were just as important as Friday night pizza and high school football or basketball. It could be waiting in line around the corner of the theatre waiting for Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, or E.T. tickets or laughing while imitating lines from the latest comedy. For some families, it is Friday night pizza and high school football while others get a burger or sandwich on Saturday and then hit the new release matinee or Saturday night showing.
